Starlab, a private R&D company based in Barcelona (Spain) and Oxford (UK),
is looking for an exceptional Data Scientist / AI Engineer with a very hands-on
attitude to join our Barcelona Space team. The successful candidate will work at
the forefront of applied Earth Observation at the space department.

areas for the 21st century with a common element: the increasing availability of

Job description

The successful candidate will:

o Identify and investigate key machine learning technologies and
algorithms.
o Develop, deploy, and sustain decision support applications in the
downstream business using advanced quantitative methods
o Use statistical analysis, machine learning, pattern recognition, and data
visualization along with domain knowledge and subject-specific models
to solve science, engineering, and commercial problems.
o Contribute to various stages of data analytics or decision model
development and deployment

o Provide technical support and enhancements to affiliates worldwide for
deployed applications.
o Process unstructured data into a form suitable for analysis
o Position may require moderate travel (domestic and/or international).

o Good programming skills (Python, C/C++, IDL)

This job position corresponds to a Living planet ESA fellowship:
http://livingplanetfellowship.esa.int/index.php. Starlab will act as a host
institution.

The main objective of this initiative is to support young researchers who have a
doctoral degree and who would like to initiate a scientific career in the context of
Earth Observation and Machine Learning science.

With this call ESA plans to support up to 10 Post-Doctoral researchers
(supported by ESA per 2-years) to carry out a research project at a Host
Institution in an eligible ESA Member State.

Candidate researchers shall submit research proposals responding to:

Advancing Novel Methods and Techniques: Targeted research projects
aimed at developing innovative methods, novel algorithms and new EO
products and datasets expanding the scientific use of the Sentinel
missions, the Earth Explorers or the ESA long-term data archives into new
scientific areas and application domains.
