Revolutionizing Early Alzheimer's Diagnosis with Cutting-Edge EEG Biomarkers
Imagine if doctors had an easy and reliable way to determine if patients are starting to develop Alzheimer's disease. Currently, diagnosing Alzheimer's in patients with memory complaints requires extensive and invasive tests, making it challenging to screen large populations efficiently.
Starlab's Mission: To develop EEG Biomarkers to identify early signs of Alzheimer's disease
At Starlab, we are on a mission to develop EEG biomarkers that can identify early signs of Alzheimer's disease in individuals with memory issues. To achieve this, we have partnered with the ACE Alzheimer Center in Barcelona. Our collaboration involves recording EEG data from a cohort of 60 patients, divided into three groups: 20 with Subjective Cognitive Decline (SCD), 20 with Mild Cognitive Impairment without Alzheimer's biomarkers (MCI Neg), and 20 with Mild Cognitive Impairment with Alzheimer's biomarkers (MCI Pos).
Starlab's Cognitive Battery of EEG Tests
These patients completed Starlab's comprehensive cognitive battery of computer-based tests while their EEGs were recorded. Our preliminary results from analyzing auditory stimuli show distinct EEG features for each group. The brain responses to novel auditory sounds in an active oddball paradigm reveal clear differences between MCI patients with and without Alzheimer's biomarkers.
We are excited about these initial findings and look forward to integrating EEG biomarkers into clinical practice. This innovation aims to enhance the diagnostic process for memory specialists and improve outcome measures in pharmaceutical clinical trials. By making Alzheimer's diagnosis less invasive and more accessible, we hope to transform how this disease is detected and treated in its early stages.
