Success case:
Jardins de Bordeo
In this research study, we helped our customer understanding the effect of a new synergy of essential oils used in aromatherapy on relaxation and emotional states
Objectives
The project aimed to assess the impact of 15 minutes exposure to a new synergy of essential oils used in ambiental aromatherapy on participant's relaxation and emotional responses. We used a control condition in which only plain water vapour was diffused for 15 minutes.
Using Starlab’s EmoWave® and WEEmo® algorithms, we assessed emotional dimensions such as valence, arousal, happiness, harmony, satisfaction, and overall well-being.

What did we observe?
Compared to the control condition, exposure to the essential oil synergy was associated with:
-
A slower heart rate, suggesting parasympathetic calm
-
Increased slow and fast EEG activity, a pattern often reported in meditation and relaxation research
-
Qualitative increases in well-being, harmony, satisfaction, and happiness
Together, these results point to a state of relaxed yet alert focus — calm, internally oriented, and cognitively engaged — rather than simple sedation.

This project illustrates how objective neurophysiological measures can be combined with subjective emotional indicators to better understand well-being interventions, and highlights the value of rigorous experimental protocols in applied contexts like aromatherapy.
