Success case:
CONNECTA Therapeutics
“Starlab helped us navigate the complexity of EEG data collection and analysis delivering insights that support our clinical development programme.”
Objectives
The public-private consortium made up of biotechnology company CONNECTA Therapeutics, the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG), the Hospital del Mar Research Institute (HMRI) and the Institute for Research and Innovation Parc Taulí (I3PT) relied on the expertise of the third-party Starlab to measure cognitive activity using electroencephalography (EEG) in the assessment of neural biomarkers in adult subjects with Fragile X syndrome.

To address this, Starlab implemented an experimental protocol using the COGBAT task battery, including an active auditory oddball, resting state, and auditory steady-state response (ASSR) tasks. Starlab also provided access to easy-to-use wireless EEG devices, trained clinical trial staff on data recording, and offered technical support throughout the acquisition process. The team then analysed the data, extracting EEG features relevant to characterising the FXS population based on current research, and delivered a group comparison report.

The project has been funded by the Ministry of Science[, Innovation and Universities and the State Research Agency (MCIN/AEI /10.13039/501100011033) under the COLABORACIÓN PÚBLICO-PRIVADA sub-programme, 2022 call, and by the European Union through the “NextGenerationEU / Plan for a stronger, more resilient Europe”.
